From the wonderful Bethany Scotch, Hanger Girl!
A Message to Hanger Girls Everywhere:
I’ve been playing in the fashion industry for years. My most
recent venture, working at the mall, has been more eye opening than others in
how women view their body. I get the insecurities, I’m a bigger girl, but what
I don’t understand is the uncomfortableness. Part of my job is to wardrobe our
clients, get them out of the fitting room and talk to them about the pieces
they are wearing. More often than not, this is a difficult job. Many women
simply don’t want to be seen trying on clothing. And even worse, many of them
are picking out sizes and styles that hide their bodies rather than revel in
them.
My friends, this is a disgrace. Big, small, short, tall,
stick thin, super curvy and everything in between…we ALL have amazing,
beautiful bodies. Never, ever, ever should we be trying to hide ourselves.
Rejoice in your body.
Get naked, lay around, stare into a mirror – GET
COMFORTABLE.
This is you.
Your body is a part of who you are. Of course there are
going to be parts you don’t like, sometimes we have the ability to change that
and sometimes we don’t. Either way, it’s still you. Own your body – it’s yours
to keep.
So often we hear rants about society and Hollywood and the
high demands they place on women. Instead of getting fired up at the perfection
obsession, change it. Society changes because the people do. Hollywood is
simply a reflection of what people are. And right now, girls, we are
uncomfortable with ourselves. We are hiding in that fitting room underneath
ill-fitting clothing because we don’t know how to be comfortable with our
bodies. So stick your tongue out at society and change how you view yourself,
not how they view you. Because when it comes down to it, how you do you is far
more important than anything they can try to whisper in your ear.
